Traditionally, women (particularly Asian, Indian or Sikh women) have been reluctant to seek medical attention due to cultural, social restraints and social stigma.  This section is devoted to responding to the unique attributes of women's health and factors that prevent us from reaching out.  Overall health really entails the mind, the body and the spirit.  A healthy body is an essential vessel to nurture a healthy mind and the spirit.

Gynecology (GYN) is the branch of medicine that manages health care aspects of the female reproductive organs.  Contact your Family Practitioner or a Gynecologist to schedule your routine annual check up.   Regardless of your marital status, gender preference, race, ethnicity, religious affiliation or age, it is essential to get the right medical care in a timely fashion.   Early detection can mean less suffering, better outcome if anything is abnormal, cure for sexually transmitted diseases (STD's) and preventing infertility and a healthy pregnancy and child birth.

You can start by get to know your Body Basics, and embracing a healthful Sexuality.  Read up on human sexuality, STD Awareness, pre-marital sex.   Get involved in Sports, Gatka and other means of staying fit.  Read about hazards of Smoking, Alcohol and other Addiction Resources.  See the screening tests and immunizations sections for preventative health care.  If you are planning a pregnancy, then get started by determining your ovulation dated, date your pregnancy and even print a pregnancy calendar (courtesy of PhysiciansLounge.com).

Last but not the least, an increasingly important topic is that of providing culturally sensitive and competent care for a Sikh patient.  This section is important for both consumers (patients) as well as providers (physicians and other health care personnel).  This is an emerging area of interest as world's people are living longer.  Aging brings it's unique challenges and hopefully we can educate ourselves to be advocates for our preferences as well as teachers to help others learn more about us.
